How is your first week in May going? Mine's been a giant batch week. That's what I call it when John works a bunch of days in a row at the firehouse (5 out of 7 this week!), because I batch all my tasks I need to get done related to blogging, the podcast and shop, and any random errands. I enjoy it because then I can sit back and do nothing the rest of the month. At this point I think I can sit back and do nothing until July, so that's refreshing. I'm never very motivated in the summer anyway, the weather makes me lethargic. I don't function in heat! Which is coming - we had 3 days of it before it cooled off, but now it's going to get warm all over again.

Unfortunately, it's John's season to shine. So much energy, he just loves this time of year. Which makes him want to get out of the house and do things and I'm not about that life. He actually wants to plan a trip to Nashville during his time off in July but I'm undecided. (In other travel notes, my mom wants to do Disney World next spring and I'm undecided about that even.) People are still disgusting and full of germs and I just don't think it's worth it to venture out. I'm not vaccinated yet either, I'm still undecided on that too, and obviously I wouldn't travel without getting it. So that's a factor to consider. I don't know, I'm fine here. I'm not physically afraid to leave the house, I just don't want to.

But at least my mom and Ida are in my bubble so I will venture out of the house this weekend over to my mom's house to celebrate Mother's Day the way we always do - by making Ida eat vegan food all day. And to wash her windows, that's her requested Mother's Day gift. Go figure. Happy weekend to you, moms. Pet moms included! Hawkeye will be doing nothing for me on Sunday, as per her usual.

The parts of quarantine to keep. This was a cute little read about things to keep from quarantine. It's hard to see the silver lining sometimes, to recognize that it wasn't all bad. And I agree, there are a lot of things that I want to keep, some of which appear on their list too, like the walks, the cooking, and hell yes the personal space. What do you want to keep from quarantine?

10 most toxic things in your home. It's hard to start down the zero waste/ sustainability / less toxins rabbit hole. All of those things (and more) go hand in hand and it can become very overwhelming, very quickly. But this you can do - start with these 10 most toxic things in your home. Learn why they suck and how you can kick them out. Just 10. Easy enough, right?

7 zero waste beauty brands. One of the things on that list of 10 toxic items is cosmetics. For many reasons. And if you're going to change up the toxic stuff, why not also go the zero waste route, thereby also getting rid of the toxic plastic packaging? Cosmetics is one of the toughest places for people to go less waste, but it doesn't have to be! These brands are all great.
